Our Plastic Injection Mold Process
See how TwoWing Mold processes your orders, from quotation to produce high quality precision plastic injection mold toolings.
1. Get a Quotation
Please send us your 3D drawings in step/igs/x-t format and specify the part materials and surface treatment requirements. We will give you a free quotation with 2 business days.
2. DFM Report
Once the quotation is accepted, our engineers provides a DFM report to identify potential challenges and recommend improvements, ensuring optimal production efficiency and quality.
3. Mold Flow Analysis
If the part structure is complex, we conduct a mold flow analysis using advanced software. This simulation reveals how molten plastic flows into the mold, allowing us to identify potential issues.
4. Mold Design
Our engineers takes around 2-3 days to finalize the mold design and provide clients with 3D mold drawings for confirmation, ensuring that the design meets all specifications and requirements.
5. Mold Building
Mold build typically takes 3-8 weeks, depending on complexity and size. Our skilled workers utilize CNC machining, EDM, Wire Cutting, polishing/texturing, and mold assembly/fitting to process the molds.
6. Mold Trial
We conduct a mold trial by injecting plastic into the mold to produce sample parts. We evaluate the mold’s performance and quality, making any necessary adjustments.
7. Sample Confirmation
We will send samples to our overseas customers for review and approval, ensuring they meet the required appearance, dimensional, and assembly fit,etc standards.
8. Packaging and Shipping
After obtaining your sample approval, the mold will be sprayed with rust protection oil and securely packed in wooden boxes to ensure safe and timely transport to your destination.

Essential Tests for Export Mold
What tests need to be done before an injection mold is exported?
- Mold Appearance: As per customer signage, located on the operator's side.
- Mold Transportation: Ensure the lifting holes of each template are centered.
- Mold Assembly and Disassembly Mechanism: Tight-fitting inserts or components should have removable threads or holes.
- Pouring System: Specifications for the diameter of the positioning ring.
- Cooling System: Water pressure test should show no leaks.
- Ejection System and Reset: Ejection should be smooth, without jamming or unusual noises.
- Slider Mechanism: The fixed slider inserts should not wobble sideways.
- Inclined Ejector Mechanism: Parts of the inclined ejector mechanism should be marked with codes.
- Cavity and Core: According to drawing requirements, the hardness values of the cavity and core must meet standards.
- Inserts and Pins: Inserts/pins should be assembled tightly and not be too loose to fall freely.
- Hot Runner System: The inner cavity should have rounded transitions, with no sharp corners.
- Oil Cylinders and Air Cylinders: Oil and air cylinders should have positioning safety devices.
- Other Components: The bottom of the guide sleeve should be designed for venting.

Plstic Injection Mold FAQs
Q1: What is plastic injection mold?
A: Plastic injection mold is a specialized tool used to shape molten plastic into specific forms, allowing for high-precision production of plastic parts. It’s used across a wide range of industries including aerospace, medical devices, consumer goods, energy, electronics, automotive, robotics, security, toys, and more.
Q2: Why do plastic injection molds cost so much?
A: Plastic injection molds can be expensive, typically ranging from $2,000 to over $100,000, depending on complexity and size. For example, a simple mold for a small part might cost around $2,000, while a complex mold for automotive components could exceed $50,000.
Plastic injection molds can be expensive due to several key factors:
Quality of Materials: High-quality molds are constructed from premium metals, such as aircraft-grade aluminum or hardened mold steels, which are essential for producing durable and precise parts.
Skilled Labor: Mold makers are highly skilled professionals who often spend years, if not decades, honing their craft. Their expertise is crucial for designing and manufacturing effective molds.
Advanced Tools and Technology: Mold makers require expensive tools, including specialized software, CNC machinery, and precision fixtures, all of which contribute to the overall cost of mold production.
Complexity and Size: The time required to create a mold can vary significantly, ranging from a few days to several weeks, depending on the complexity and size of the end product. More intricate designs naturally increase the time and effort involved.
Q3: Who owns the tool?
A: At TwoWing Mold, our customers own their injection mold tools! After a run is complete, the tool will remain at our facilities.
